Day 150 – Wednesday 2/8/12

More cards arrived yesterday- the girls of Lincoln Assembly #6 and adults are so wonderful.  I have a wall of cards from them to remind me how amazing they are!  Thanks girls, thanks adults! I miss you all very much :)
Even though it was a snow day from school, I still got to go to the American Corner!  Prior to Learning English Through Games club, there was a presentation about the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Summer Institute in America.  It is an exchange scholarship funded by the US State Department and brings high school students from Europe and America together for a very powerful 3 or 4 weeks of discussions on global issues, leadership training, project development, and community service. Gazmend Ilazi, from the US Embassy in Macedonia gave the presentation. There were also 2 former scholarship recipients who shared their experiences with the prospective applicants.

Following the presentation we played the card game Crazy Eights. It is a game very similar to UNO without the deck of UNO cards. We had a great time like usual… lots of laughter and practice with English!

Walking home I tried to take a picture of the gazebo on campus with the snow on top… it’s a bit dark, but I think you can see how much snow is piled on top of it!  This is day 8 of snow here in Tetovo… it is pretty amazing.

Lesson: Even though technology is a wonderful tool and priceless when you are so far away, there is still nothing like getting a note or card from home!
