11 days...

Oh man it is almost down to the single digits... I should probably be packing my suitcases or at least packing up my room!!!  Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow?

I have made some great headway on my to-do list this past week....

Saturday brought a final trip to the Farmer's Market and a trip to Target to get the necessities for the trip (I forgot sheets- duh! - next trip).
Sunday brought good-byes to my Rainbow family - an international girls service and leadership organization (www.gorainbow.org).  This was the first set of real goodbyes.
Monday was payflex day and getting that stuff figured out and errands with mom :)
Tuesday shipped off 3 of my diplomatic pouches of educational materials to the Embassy in Skopje. It will take 3-4 weeks to get there.  I packed all of the information from the many states and cities from around the US. I am still receiving some so I have saved my 4th pouch of the straggling items and the other Nebraska things that are yet to come.  I also packed all of my special education text books.  Macedonia does not yet have special education as a program in their schools but there is some interest so I am going to bring all that I can!!
Wednesday - today was a re-check on my glasses- I go to Eye Care Specialties here in Lincoln. Everyone there is so kind and helpful. They know that I will be leaving in a week and a half so they worked really hard to get me in, letting me know when others canceled their appointments and are rushing my glasses. After I went to my AMAZING 2nd job at Michael Forsberg Gallery (www.michaelforsberg.com). I got to spend the day with 3 great friends (and one in spirit and on the computer - feel better P). Sarah even made a humus recipe that I have been wanting to try!  Great friends - I will miss you guys a lot the next 11 months!! Then tonight was dinner with 2 friends from Rainbow...

I think that I am going to gain a lot of weight in these next few days with all of this eating out.  But I have come to terms with that and am really okay with it because there is NO WAY I will turn down some of the great restaurants we have... oh and of course the wonderful company :)

17 days....

I just added up the number of days until I get on the plane... WOW. It is becoming  more and more real!  I am very excited that it is getting so close, but I also have to admit that as I sit here and type this, I have butterflies in my stomach.  It is the uncertainty and the unknown that cause this I am sure.

This week was great!  I was able to go to Holmes and work with 2nd graders on their reading testing. Being back in the school setting felt nostalgic.  It was important to me to not stand out or disrupt learning, but walking the halls and talking with the students was wonderful.  I also was able to go to Pyrtle Elementary and Lakeview Elementary to visit my friends Emily and Jory (respectively) and help them get their reading testing accomplished.  Although it wasn't Holmes, it was also great to be with friends and see other schools.  It has gotten me excited for teaching abroad, and when I arrive home.

Thanks to the many generous people in the USA

During training in DC, one of the recommendations given to the ETAs was to bring some brochures, menus, or maps to use as teaching tools while abroad.  I thought that this was a WONDERFUL idea.  When I arrived home I began emailing and contacting the great states in our country along with many cities, attractions, and national parks.   The response I have received it is just plain TREMENDOUS! .... as of today I have 5 piles of information.  It is truly amazing!

Some places have even sent gifts that I can pass out.  Alaska sent buttons, notepads, and moose cut outs.  Hawaii sent postcards, posters, ruler, stickers, and bumper stickers.  Detroit sent a bumper sticker. Ocean City, MD sent a mouse pad and postcards.  Lansing, Michigan sent postcards.  Atlanta sent postcards and a lapel pin. Illinois and Indiana also sent postcards.  South Dakota shipped an entire box of state maps, enough for an entire class set. ... and these are only a few of the many states and cities that have sent me resources to take along.

I really feel like there is no way to fully express my thanks to these visitor centers and the individuals for taking the time and effort to send all of the information to me so that I can take with me and share about our great country.
