Day 214 - Thursday - 4/12/2012

At SEE-U this week, there was a promotion for the University. Open Days was promoted throughout the city of Tetovo and other cities in the country. It was created to bring students to campus to learn about South East European University and see if it is the university that they want to attend. In honor of the high school student visitors, the Drama Club preformed. It was such a neat set up. They did their performance on the steps of the Language Center under the banner from World Languages Month and the Language Fair. Current staff, current students, and future students all stood together and enjoyed a wonderful performance by this group. Clubs are not as common here like they are in the United States. I think that it is wonderful that professors and students have started and participate in these groups. I think that extra curricular activities enhance a person's educational experience a great deal, so I think these students are so very smart to choose to be a part of these clubs!

At the end of the work day, I caught a ride with 3 of my colleagues from SEE-U to get to Skopje. The long awaited Bosnia Road Trip was going to be starting early the next morning! When I arrived, Lizzie and Justin were already there and had rented the car we would take on our journey. Together with Erin we went for coffee before meeting up with Cassidy and Aryn for dinner.  Since it was a beautiful afternoon, we took the opportunity to walk around the center a bit. The Arch is now done, so I took pictures of that.  Also in the park there was a statue that I had not seen before of men holding the world on their shoulders. I think it may be in recognition of individuals (ethnic Macedonians) who lost their lives during the 2001 conflict.

It was a great start to what was promising to be a GREAT weekend!

Lesson: Everyday you can find something you had not seen or done before- make each day new!
